A CUP OF TEA AND HIBISCUS

Hey there lovelies, let me ask you a question, do you have a favourite flower? I’d wager most of you would be inclined to say the romantic look of a rose, or a shining bright sunflower, or maybe you’d pick the lavender for its tantalising smell. But for me, I’ve been infatuated with a little plant with its origin in the land of the east, the Hibiscus flower.

The beautiful, exotic hibiscus flower, on top of being an absolute feast for the eyes, when used for personal treatment, can unlock many benefits that were once thought hidden. As a matter of fact, the hibiscus actually has a unique nickname, the “Botox plant” because of the skin-firming properties of the plant (but we’ll get into that a bit later, wanted to give all you lovelies a quick spoiler of what’s to come).

But yes, the hibiscus plant is a great treatment for your skin, it can be used in a wide variety of applications, it can be used as a face mask, crushed into a petal powder, applied as a lip balm, or my personal favourite, drank as a relaxing tea (it’s the ultimate skin remedy!)

And how is this exactly? Well, for one, the hibiscus is extremely high in antioxidants, specifically the antioxidant anthocyanoside. Anthocyanosides can provide protection to your skin from many harmful substances like UV rays and dust, helps to tone the skin and reduce the levels of open pores, making the skin smoother in tow.

So now, you’ve probably been reading this and you’re still wondering why exactly hibiscus is called the Botox plant. This is all down to the plant’s ability to increase the levels of collagen in the skin. Hibiscus actually houses a compound called myricetin, which helps to reduce the amount of collagenase (an enzyme that damages the collagen in your skin) from being produced, and prevents the damage of collagen and improve the glow of your skin.

With all these antioxidants in the body, they can accomplish so much for the skin. Adding more on what we’ve already talked about, the hibiscus flower helps to recover your skin cells from any kind of damage done to it by promoting the production of elastin and cell turnover in your skin, and by doing this, causes the skin to retain its youthful look.

And on a final note, one of the most powerful traits the hibiscus flower encompasses is its skills at wound healing.  Using the extract of the flower on your wounds helps to produce higher a concentration of fibronectin, which is a protein that supports the closing of the edges of wounds, cell regeneration and hydration of the skin, and ultimately ends up speeding the healing process as a result.

A flower like that comes around only once in a lifetime, and if you’ve known us for long enough, we only use the best and so we’ve decided to scoop this little marvel up and add it as a key ingredient in our beauty balms, like our Twinkle Twinkle Twinkle Little Jar and our Dew Believe In Magic beauty balms.

As you can see, the hibiscus flower certainly means hib…usiness on your skin and anyone who wants to look their best and do it in style, the hibiscus flower is really something to behold. You grow girl!
