ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS…
A HEALTHY SKIN BARRIER!!!!!!
The end of 2022 is upon us, and what a year it’s been (but is it just me, or has this year gone by stupidly fast?)
So this weeks blog focuses on the best ways to maintain your skin. It’s simple, it all starts and ends with a healthy skin barrier. Now, you may have heard the idea of a skin barrier being passed around TikTok or Instagram, and you may not be entirely sure what it’s all about, we’re here to help. So what exactly is the skin barrier?
Well, the skin barrier is highest layer of your skin, (also known as the stratum corneum) which acts as the protective shield on your face. It’s filled with a large number of cells and lipids that help to form a defensive barrier to your skin, keeping it healthy. The main ways your skin barrier does its job is by protecting your skin from any kind of environmental stressors, inflammation or irritation, but at the same time, being able to hold in moisture to keep your skin glowy and nourished.
So it’s safe to say that no matter what kind of skin condition you have, if your skin barrier isn’t in its happy place, then absolutely nothing will go right when it comes to keeping your skin in tip-top condition.
At Dewcy, maintaining your skin barrier is one of our key goals. As a matter of fact, we take your skin barrier so seriously that all of the first products we’ve released, (Twinkle Twinkle Little Jar, Dew Believe in Magic, and Bounce Back beauty balms) all incorporate ingredients that help to repair your skin barrier.
‘Bounce Back’ in particular includes two core ingredients that best give your skin barrier the proper rejuvenation it deserves, our Oat Kernel Extract and our Baobab Oil, both of which are packed with vitamins and lipids that turns your skin barrier to a skin blockade against stressors. The Oat Kernel Extract, specifically is an excellent active when it comes to preventing damage to the skin barrier, as due to the ingredient’s rich levels of sterols, ceramides and free fatty acids, it helps to counter the slowing of lipid production, which is one of the key reasons for a weaker and thinner skin barrier.
So if you feel like you want to end the year on a high note, or if you’re preparing for any new year’s resolutions, my only recommendation would be to make sure that skin stays glowing, and if you feel like you’re not sure where to start, might I recommend the Bounce Back (as if I haven’t talked about it enough!)
Have a great weekend lovelies and I’ll see you all next week.
Alex xoxo
