‘SKIN CYCLING’
The new TikTok trend that’s grabbing everyone’s attention!
If you’re like me and you spend every waking moment browsing TikTok, you may have come across this new trend making waves on the site – skin cycling.
This new skincare technique was brought to life by Dr. Whitney Bowe, who is a TikTok content creator and a dermatologist giving out free tips and info on how best to keep your skin as perfect as possible. According to Dr. Bowe, skin cycling takes place over a four-day cycle which involves using a number of prescribed products and ingredients in a set pattern that gives the skin a built-in time to both receive and recover.
The idea of skin cycling is that it encourages you to use your products in a strategic way that allows them to complement one another. Bowe’s skincare regime is very simple (like stupidly simple), during the day, all you have to do is stick to your typical morning routine: cleansing, adding any kind of serums, and finishing it off with a touch of sunscreen. But then wait until nightfall, that’s where it gets interesting. Dr. Bowe and fellow dermatologists propose that skin cycling takes place over a four-night schedule: a cleansing night with exfoliators, followed by a maintenance night with retinoids, a recovery night, and finishing off with another recovery night if you deal with sensitive skin, then repeat. Much like going to the gym, your skin needs just as much time to recover as any other part of the body, which is how this skincare routine benefits you. Allowing your skin to repair itself allows it to come back stronger and well recovered. It may take a while, but the results are more than worth it.
Bowe’s new viral baby has been seen as widely accessible by all audiences as using certain products on different days instead of layering them all at once can actually reduce the chances of irritation on the skin. As well as that, the fact that this skincare routine can be easily followed at home with your own products means it’s gained a wide appeal. The hashtag #skincycling has gone viral on the site, and with over 3.5 billion views across TikTok, it’s easy to see why.
If you haven’t given it a try yet, then what’re you doing? I’ll be right here waiting for you when you get back.
Happy skin cycling, lovelies
Alex xoxo
