HAPPY SKIN HAPPY PLANET
Happy Friday lovelies!
This blog post comes to you after Earth Day earlier this week. It is always a good opportunity to spark thought and conversation concerning sustainability and how best we can keep our lives as green and planet friendly as possible.
We are a skincare brand that prioritises sustainability and taking a kind approach by carefully considering our customers as well as our planet and the plants and animals that reside on it.
70% of the beauty industry’s waste comes from packaging. Here at DEWCY our 2 biggest factors when creating packaging for our products are:
• The materials used, where they are sourced, and how sustainable they are.
• The overall aesthetic, practicality, and lavishness experienced when applying the products.
We create luxury products that are enjoyable to use. Our balms are in gorgeous glass pots with bamboo lids and golden spatulas to ensure sanitation.
So, why choose balms over creams?
Most moisturising creams consist of 65% - 85% water, lotions sometimes as high as 90% (Don’t know about you but we don’t want to pay skincare prices for a product that’s mostly water!) DEWCY’s Beauty Balms contain 0% water - so not only is it better for the environment as it’s more sustainable*, but it also requires zero preservatives making it a more suitable option for sensitive skin.
* 1.8 billion people around the world live in countries or regions with water scarcity and by 2025 it's thought that half the global population will face water shortage. Guilt-free skincare, we have that taken care of, so you don’t have to. But that’s enough about us.
What can you do to be more planet-friendly?
The 3 R’s. I know we have all heard them before. I propose that instead of considering them once the product is used up and you are left with empty packaging you have no clue what to do with, think whilst you are scrolling through the depths of online stores or scouring the shelves for your next new thing. Think, how will I reduce my waste by recycling, or even better, reusing this packaging?
Here are a couple of simple examples:
When re-purchasing your favourite brands, maybe consider looking out for their eco-friendly ranges, for example Colgate have a recyclable ‘smile for good’ range that consists of 99.7% natural ingredients and is far better for the planet than their other products (or even better, shop small business’s). The responsibility is on business’s to be considerate when rolling out their products, but as consumers, we should research what we are buying to ensure they align with our morals and standards regarding, sustainability: deforestation, animal welfare, pollution, human rights, and environmental waste practises.
There are plenty of ways, we can all make a difference, small & large. It takes all of us being thoughtful and considerate in our choices to provoke real change for the future of our planet. This week has been the perfect time to reflect.
